Which bone should your dog chew?

August 21, 2014

Hollow Bones: Work the Incisors (front row) of teeth. As your dog digs for the tasty, sweet marrow, the canines (fangs) are scraped clean.

Knuckle Bones: Work the pre-molars and canine teeth (power teeth). Bones crumble as your dog instinctively crushes them. Once ingested the bone acts as roughage to help maintain anal glands upon elimination.

Tisol responds to customer feedback – removes collars from shelves

July 7, 2014

As a result of feedback from customers and dog trainers, Tisol has decided to remove prong/pinch, shock and choke collars from our selection of collars.

To date, we have stocked these products in an attempt to open a dialogue and to educate our customers about alternate corrective methods (i.e. training, spray collars, etc.); however, we have heard from some customers that they would prefer that we not carry these products, at all.

We realize that using these collars is a personal decision and we are not judging those who do use them, preferably with the guidance of a skilled dog trainer. Our in-store advisors are happy to help our customers explore the many alternate corrective methods that we do continue to offer.

We hope that these actions will address the concerns of those customers who expressed their desire to have us remove these collars, and demonstrate that our intentions always err on the side of protecting the health and happiness of the ones you love.

China-made treats (long) gone from Tisol stores

July 7, 2014

In November 2013, Tisol removed China-made dog and cat treats from their 9 stores.

This was in response to growing evidence these treats could be potentially harmful to our customer’s pets.

Some of the symptoms displayed by dogs after eating chicken, duck or sweet potato-based treats made in China include gastrointestinal problems, kidney failure and a kidney-related disease called Fanconi syndrome.

This spring, two U.S. pet-food giants, Petco and PetSmart, announced they would pull Chinese-sourced pet treats from their shelves, although in Petco’s case not until the end of the year, and PetSmart’s shelves won’t be cleared until March, 2015.

The move by these large US-based pet supply retailers to pull all China-made dog treats off the shelves comes as the U.S. based Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports it has received 4,800 reports of pet illnesses that may be related to the consumption of Chinese-made jerky pet treats since 2007. These reports include more than 1,000 canine deaths.

As a smaller, locally-owned and family operated business, Tisol is pleased to be able to respond more quickly to issues of this nature.
