Birds in the wild naturally forage 5-6 hours per day. Your bird is just doing what comes naturally. This is why a lot of cage manufacturers do not like bars on the bottom of the bird's cage, it interferes with a bird's natural instincts. If you have bars try removing them and putting in a couple of inches of corn cob bedding instead. Your bird will easily be able to recover the seeds, etc. that drop to the bottom of the cage, thereby fulfilling his natural foraging instinct and making for a happy bird. The Tisol Lovebird (Kevan) has a bird bath and a tray of oat grass on her cage floor (yes, she's a girl with a boy's name). You will see her on her cage bottom eating grasses and seeds and looking for whatever other goodies she can find.
